EASA PPL subject 061 — the hardest subject

Navigation (061) is statistically the toughest of all nine EASA PPL subjects. More than 35% of students fail on their first attempt. The subject combines mathematical calculations, chart reading, timing and radio navigation. Master this subject and you have the backbone of your theory in place.

Practise calculations daily without a calculator: exams test your speed.

Master the E6B flight computer or its digital equivalent thoroughly.

Complete at least 5 full flight plans before the exam.

A 5° course error over 100 nm = nearly 9 km off track: precision counts.
